Brightlingsea Musical Theatre Group has been captivating audiences with vibrant performances and community spirit since its inception in 1980. Join us in celebrating our rich history.
What we do
We run primarily on Volunteers and good will. Our members are involved with everything from choosing the show to making the set. Our actors are dancers and singers but also artists, builders, sewers, painters, crafters, salesmen, bakers, chefs, and a whole lot more all working together and giving some help where they can to put on our shows. We are a group that has a ‘family feel’ and we genuinely enjoy working together to do the thing we love.

Since 1980 BMTG have been putting on Musicals mainly in Brightlingsea. We are a group that pride ourselves in including everyone who wants to be involved!

There’s lots to look forward to at Brightlingsea Musical Theatre Group! We have some fantastic upcoming shows, exciting plans in the works, and we’ll be revealing our 2027 production very soon—watch this space!
Auditions are planned for January, with rehearsals starting in February. If you’ve ever thought about joining Brightlingsea Musical Theatre Group, we’d love to see you there. Whether you’re an experienced performer or completely new to musical theatre, everyone is welcome to come along and get involved.
Last years production
Following the success of Little Shop of Horrors in 2025, we were thrilled to bring Sister Act to St James’ Church, Brightlingsea, in 2026. The production was enjoyed by audiences throughout its run and received fantastic feedback, as well as an incredible five nominations NETG Awards.
Our nominations were:
- The Dave Ross Adjudicators’ Award – The swiftness and efficiency of the scene changes
- Best Supporting Actress – Lynne Farlie as Sister Mary Lazarus and Phoebe April Wiggett as Sister Mary Patrick
- The Anne Sexton Award for Best Actress – Rebecca Mason as Deloris Van Cartier.
- The Peter & Jacque Collyer Cup for Best Musical Production – Sister Act, directed by Lucy Weaver.
- The Timmens Award for Music – Franky Garland (Musical Director) and the band for their outstanding musical accompaniment, with commendation to the company for their singing.
